DJ Ghost brings the flavors of yesterday and today’s hits, hip-hop, underground, old school, reggae, R&B, and classic house to the tables with ease. Dubbed, “The Phenomenal Female” and now “The First Lady” by her peers, Ghost has over 20 years of musical experience to offer including college radio (WJMF 90.3 FM), clubs, and many mobile engagements including overseas in Finland and Estonia.
After winning a DJ Battle in Providence, Rhode Island’s legendary Jovans Nightclub, she became the resident DJ for three years on Saturdays and a 30 plus crowd became her following. She received a standing ovation in her last nights before coming to Atlanta. She has spun with such pioneers as hometown favorite DJ Buck and gone on to DJ with Teddy Tedd and Special K – The Awesome Two for their annual Miami Memorial Day party with invitations to open other venues as well. Staying connected in every fashion possible, Ghost has also been a writer for the online magazine RIMASSCONN founded by Mikele Macon out of Connecticuit. Many of the bios you read on your favorite DJ may have been penned by her. She chooses to keep her byline quiet.
Her name describes the way in which she likes to project herself: She’s the quiet one you don’t see right away. Her style sneaks up on you with pleasant surprise. Ghost is content with hanging in the back in the club and slipping into the booth undetected. Underground joints like the popular Apache Cafe in Atlanta are her favorite spots to rock. “I have to get the ‘whoooooa!!!’ factor at least 5 times a night to be satisfied that I’ve done well. That is what happens when you play something people weren’t expecting and it catches them off guard and they go absolutely beserk!”
As a former high school teacher, Ghost has taken on the plight to teach the kids – not just readin’, writin’, and ‘rithmatic, but also to understand the origins of hip-hop. You can find her spinning for local high schools around Southeast Georgia or for benefits that help children and at risk teens. She also was the music / content director for DIRadioCast.com – the first new media website of it’s kind. Ghost has also started the path most DJs follow into the world of music production.
DJ Ghost is on a mission to clear the way for the 5 Star Generals and women in general. “There are so many more women in the game than from when I started years ago – but we need to maintain respect.”
For DJ Ghost, fame is not the goal. The love for hip hop , its history, the art of turntabilism and the skill of moving the crowd are the driving forces behind the woman who is the First Lady of the 5 Star Generals: DJ Ghost.
